A NICET Level IV certified engineering technician in fire alarm and a Level III technician in the special hazards sub-fields, Mullen is a past-president of the Fire Suppression Systems Association and currently serves as Principal Member Representative to the NFPA 770 Hybrid (Water-Mist & Nitrogen) Fire Extinguishing Systems Committee.

Mullen has been active in local and state code development and recently concluded serving his second appointed term on the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Fire Extinguishing Contractors’ Advisory Board. Known as an industry advocate and leader, Shawn has extensive experience in making presentations to the Hawkeye State Fire Inspector’s Association and various other industry associations including the National Fire Protection Association, Criminal Justice Facility Engineers National

Known as an industry advocate and leader, Shawn has extensive experience in making presentations to the Hawkeye State Fire Inspector’s Association and various other industry associations including the National Fire Protection Association, Criminal Justice Facility Engineers National Conference and the 140 Character Conference.

His blog, “Onward & Upward” is closely followed throughout the special hazards fire protection community. He is a graduate of Drake University and is currently serving as President-elect of the Rotary Club of Des Moines.

Mark has worked in the fire protection industry for over 20 years.

He has specialized for the past several years in Special Hazards suppression systems including; Clean Agents, CO2, Dry Chemical, and Detection & Control Systems, and has held roles in Sales, Marketing, and Business Development with a variety of manufacturers including ANSUL, Chemetron, Badger and Fenwal .  

He is currently the National Marketing Representative for 3M Corporation and is an active member of the Fire Suppression Systems Association.
